Ohio hospital embraces prefabricated construction
When “creativity meets technology”
When University Hospitals Suburban Health Center in South Euclid Ohio wanted to make better use of a space, they called plusdetail.co, who called Lindsey Ray at the Falkbuilt Cleveland Branch.
Before you know it, the +Detail design team was visiting Falkbuilt HQ in Calgary to put together solid walls and find out firsthand how quick and easy it is to work with Falkbuilt’s prefab construction.
“It’s a great product from a finishes standpoint and all the things you can do with it aesthetically,” says Jen Minotas, Founding Partner at +Detail. “We know it goes up faster, but I think seeing it in action really gave us a perspective of how Falkbuilt is also good for business. The clean construction really allows them to move in quicker and generate revenue faster.”
With Falkbuilt as the interior construction contractor, +Detail, K2M Design and Next Generation Construction LLC got to work transforming a vacant exam room into four exam rooms, three testing rooms and administrative work rooms. “It was an exam suite prior to this project, but it wasn’t set up in a way that was conducive for their workflow, so we demolished the whole thing and then rebuilt with Falkbuilt,” says Jen.
The hospital loves making use of the once under-utilized suite, having turned it into cutting-edge, efficient space that improves patient care and increases operational efficiency. And the contractor, who hadn’t worked with Falkbuilt’s Digital Component Construction before, was also pleased.
“As the construction team approached this project, despite initial concerns about the learning curve due to lack of prior experience, they found it to be a very simple process,” says Jen. “They had wonderful things to say about it and were very, very happy with installation process for their crew and the final outcome.”
The project is yet another demonstration of what’s possible “when creativity meets technology” in offsite construction. “With Falkbuilt’s system, we’ve achieved a balance—designing aesthetically pleasing and incredibly practical spaces, minimizing maintenance while maximizing durability,” says Jen. “It was a great experience.”
