High Standards for Sustainability in Montreal

Aligned goals for a greener future

When the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation sought to establish its permanent office in Montreal’s iconic Place Ville Marie, sustainability was understandably a major priority. As an organization dedicated to developing global standards for sustainability reporting, ISSB required a workspace that not only embodied its mission but also met the highest standards of environmental responsibility. To achieve this, ISSB partnered with Falkbuilt Greater Montreal - a leader in sustainable, technology-driven construction.

Alignment for a Sustainable, High-Performance Workspace

Falkbuilt strives to reduce our impact on the planet through smart, sustainable practices and innovative technology. From cutting waste and improving energy efficiency to using responsible materials, we’re always working toward a greener future. Members of the IFRS Foundation visited the Falkbuilt showroom in Montreal and experienced the dynamic virtual factory tour of Falkbuilt HQ. Once they learned about Falkbuilt’s commitment to sustainability, and that our values and construction solutions aligned with ISSB’s mission, they immediately recognized Falkbuilt as the ideal partner.

"They were impressed with the virtual tour and as soon as they saw the alignment of Falkbuilt’s basic operating values (to create and implement safer and cleaner construction processes for a sustainable future) and ISSB as an independent standard-setter, they were all-in,” remembers Martin Samson, Falkbuilt Greater Montreal.

Falkbuilt’s Commitment to Sustainability

Conventional construction generates significant waste—up to 30% of solid waste worldwide (Journal of Building Engineering). Falkbuilt’s offsite manufacturing eliminates waste by pre-cutting components to exact specifications and materials are shipped to site flat packed, drastically reducing:

  • Landfill waste
  • Job-site dust pollution
  • Emissions from delivery and waste transportation
  • Project timelines by up to 40%

With Echo technology integrated with Revit’s BIM 360, stakeholders gain full visibility from design, through manufacturing, to installation. This clarity boosts sustainability long before an order is sent to the factory floor by significantly reducing errors, change orders, and wasted materials, setting a new benchmark for construction efficiency and clarity.

Falkbuilt has worked with Climate Smart for the past three years, demonstrating a commitment to measuring and reducing emissions while investing in efficiency-driven sustainability. BMO’s Climate Smart program provides a combination of training, tools, and technical assistance to empower companies to measure and reduce their emissions, make informed decisions about investing in efficiencies, and communicate their sustainability initiatives in a compelling way.

Falkbuilt recently obtained an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for the McNally Solid Wall, which provides transparent, verified data on the environmental footprint of Falkbuilt’s products, allowing clients to make informed decisions about their footprint. Falkbuilt aims to secure an EPD for its Kai Glass Wall, during the first half of 2025, reinforcing its commitment to responsible production and transparency.

In 2024, we produced our second ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) summary, and plan to continue creating these reports each year. Read the 2024 ESG summary here.

Sustainable Construction Solutions

The new 7,000-square-foot ISSB office serves as a hub for global sustainability leadership and provides direct access to Canadian clients and the Eastern American market. Key design elements balance functionality and sustainability:

  • 266 feet of walls and doors, combining solid and glass elements for transparency, privacy, and natural light flow.

  • Custom Falkpods for collaborative and private spaces.

  • Design details like architectural film and acoustic felt for privacy and acoustic protection.

  • Solid walls with seamless integration of screens and digital displays. With easily accessible wall cavities, technology is embedded effortlessly, creating a smarter, more connected work environment.

  • Virtually zero on-site waste, thanks to Falkbuilt’s factory-precision cutting, reducing excess materials and eliminating dust pollution.

Setting a Benchmark for Sustainable Construction

The ISSB Montreal office showcases what’s possible when sustainability-driven organizations collaborate. Falkbuilt Greater Montreal built an innovative, eco-conscious workspace that aligns with ISSB’s mission, demonstrating the future of responsible interior construction. By reducing waste, optimizing logistics, and integrating sustainable innovations, Falkbuilt continues to set the standard for environmentally responsible construction—one project at a time.
