San Diego architect loves “the execution of design”
Hologic conference room helps marry technology and nature

When San Diego architecture firm AVRP Studios was designing a showroom for Hologic, a leading international medical and diagnostic technology company, they turned to Falkbuilt San Diego Branch to help with a key piece—a central conference area in a working showroom full of products.
“Part of the vision was to marry technology with nature,” says Chris Veum, president of AVRP Studios. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, who used “compression and release” to provide greater impact in a space, Chris and his team created a “portal” that clients and visitors walk through toward the showroom, eventually arriving at the conference room.

With Taz frameless telescoping doors on either side, people in the conference room can see nature out the building’s windows on one side, and the company’s products, the technology, on the other.
AVRP Studios liked Digital Component Construction’s focus on sustainability. “We’re looking for products that are really aware of embodied carbon,” says Chris. “There’s minimal waste. There’s speed and it’s sustainable. And obviously I love the execution of design.”
Chris was also impressed with the installation which took about two weeks, with a few refinements to ensure everything met client expectations. “The execution is great,” he says. “The follow-through is really key.”
Hologic loves their new space and airy conference room which is an integral part of the “carefully choreographed experience."
