The ABCs on Falkbuilt’s STCs
Superior acoustics
With Digital Component Construction, you don’t have to worry about loud talkers the next office over.
We sent our solid and glass walls to get Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings from labs that follow the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) E90 test procedures. These independent tests confirm that Falkbuilt delivers superior acoustic performance.
STC ratings tell you how well a wall, window, ceiling, door, etc. stops sound. The higher the number, the higher the acoustic performance. For example, the walls inside your house likely have an STC rating of 33. At this level, you may be able to hear your loud talking cousin in the next room, but you can’t make out what they’re saying. Most offices have STC ratings in the mid 30s. Rock stars belt out their latest hits in recording studios that have a minimum STC of 45. Windows generally have STC ratings ranging from 18 up to 38, depending on the thickness of the glass and whether they are single or double paned.
Falkbuilt solid walls include Super Studs, floor and ceiling tracks that come equipped with acoustic resonators that prevent sound from traveling. Our Super Studs are designed similar to a split stud, which has been used in construction for generations to minimize sound traveling.
STC 47:
Standard solid wall with insulation (ASTM E90)
STC 41:
Standard solid wall without insulation (ASTM E90)
Falkbuilt glass doors and dynamic walls ratings vary depending on thickness of the glass.
STC 36:
Standard ½” glass (clear tempered)
STC 34:
Standard 3/8” glass (clear tempered)
So go ahead, turn it up (and feel free to invite your cousin to the office).
